From an orphan:
Dear Mrs. Heidi,
My name is Hieu, living at the orphanage. I am one of the six blind children that you sent to Sai Gon for eye surgery. While I am writing to you, tears come out from my eyes. I don't know what to say except to thank you and the benefactors at your foundation.
In my group I was the luckiest one. I was examined and had the surgery two days later. The nurses and our families had a hard time to accompany us, because we had to move from the train to the car many times. It was so difficult to have what I have today. I wish to see all of you, especially Mrs. Heidi. I am wondering who you are, why you love us so much that you spent your money and your love on us. I promise I will study very hard, listen to my teachers. When I grow up, I will make lots of money so that I can help the people who are in the similar situation.
Hieu

Dang Quang Thuan – HCMUT, 2020–2021
In 2020, I never imagined receiving a scholarship from TL Stiftung. As a student from a remote ethnic minority community, I lacked both resources and confidence. The scholarship was more than financial help—it gave me motivation to pursue my dreams and believe in myself. Five years later, I have a stable job, independence, and new goals ahead. TL Stiftung walked beside me on this journey, and I remain deeply grateful for the chance to change my life.
Bui Van Toan – HCMUT, 2020–2021
During COVID-19, I lost my job as a Grab driver and struggled with both finances and low grades. The TL Stiftung scholarship covered my tuition and gave me hope, allowing me to focus on growth instead of survival. That support opened doors I never imagined. Today, as I live, study, and work in Australia, I remain deeply grateful to TL Stiftung for believing in me and giving me the chance to build a brighter, more secure future.

I was fortunate to study at ESB Business School in Germany through TL Stiftung. It was my first time abroad and a semester that shaped my life. Returning to Vietnam, I gained confidence and advanced in my career. With TL Stiftung’s continued encouragement, I pursued a Master’s and am now a PhD candidate in Berlin. Recently, I was honored with the IFAC Young Author Award. I am forever grateful to TL Stiftung for its unwavering support and belief.
Huynh Gia Danh – HCMUT, Winter 2013–2014
As one of the first recipients of the TL Stiftung exchange scholarship, I was given a life-changing opportunity—to see the world, grow as a person and a professional, and connect with students and alumni across generations. Studying abroad had been a dream limited by finances, but this scholarship made it possible. It opened doors to an MBA in Germany, an internship in Japan, and now a consulting career. Looking back, that first scholarship was the stepping stone to everything. I will always be truly grateful.

I am so grateful for the TL Stiftung scholarship. Visiting Mrs. Heidi and Mr. Bernhard’s home with other students was unforgettable—they welcomed us like family. From those gatherings, I learned perseverance, openness, and the value of community. My semester in Germany transformed me from an introvert into a confident learner. The growth I gained helped me during my internship at Schneider Electric in Vietnam. Inspired by this journey, I now hope to support future students. “Help others, help yourself” is a lesson I will always carry.
Nguyen Le Minh Trang – HCMUT, Summer 2024–2025
The TL Stiftung exchange scholarship opened a whole new chapter in my life. I experienced a new academic system, met students and professors from different countries, and applied what I am learning in Industrial Management in real-life settings. Traveling to over 10 countries in Europe broadened my perspective and boosted my confidence, and helped me discover my passions and lifelong friendships. I am sincerely thankful to TL-Stiftung for this incredible opportunity.
